In our opening we decided it would be best to use the natural lighting available to us as it would give our footage a more natural and real feel and as we had decided from the beginning we wanted our opening to have lots of realism, in order to allow for the audience to be able to connect more with the scenes.
Despite this we were able to create suspense in scenes by using the natural light in a variety of ways
For example in the scene in which the teacher and student have their confrontation we filmed facing the light, this not only gave us an over the shoulder angle but it also blacked out the student and the killer, this meant that it could how ever slightly hide the identity of the killer, which builds suspense and makes the audience wonder who it could be. It also hide the features of the student allowing the audience to be able step in page of the student and garner empathy.

The student is then carried into a dark room, which builds tension as the audience as the know that the student is not in a good situation but they wonder what is going the happen to them with in the room. We also position the student in a way that would allow small amounts of light onto his face, we did this so that the audience could see the emotions and facial features of the student.
