Thriller Sub-Genres

psychological thrillers:

In this sub-genre a majority of the conflict is mental rather than physical. The protagonist generally becomes involved in a dangerous situation which threatens their sanity. They must use mental prowess to overcome their opponent.

Romantic thrillers:

This is a sub-genre of both thriller and romance. The plot line follows a typical thriller using tension, suspense and excitement but the main element is the growing relationship between two characters.

Medical thrillers: 

This sub-genre usually consists of something being used for medical purposes turning into a deadly weapon. Often it is a virus that is leaking out into public. The protagonist and Antagonist are both doctors.

Crime thriller: 

Tends to focus on crime and is usually from a criminals view point. Physical action and eluding the police take the place of gathering evidence and trying to discover the criminals.

Conspiracy thriller: 

In this sub-genre the protagonist must confront a large, powerful organisation who's treaty only he/she sees. usually he/she must do this alone.
